Soldier of Misfortune: The 13th Amendment and I

On the occasion of my eighteenth year of life in this country, which is nigh upon me, I shall register for the draft; that is, I shall register with Selective Service to be counted one of millions of young American men destined by the government to eventually fight its wars, not as soldiers of fortune, but as soldiers of servitude.

Though military conscription was eliminated in these United States in 1973, one must still register to be drafted should it ever be reinstated. I suppose we should blockade Mexican ports should another Mexican-American War breakout as well?

It is not of my own free will that I give my name, rather I surrender it upon threat of imprisonment or fine. Americans are taught that slavery ended in the 1860's with the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, yet this chain cannot bind the beast that is an all-powerful government:

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

ADDENDUM: Note the wording of the above amendment, "... or any place subject to their jurisdiction." Interesting that even in 1865, "the United States" was still considered plural.

"I promise," is what this doctor is basically saying. If it is true that Obama is an American citizen, which I could accept should ample proof be presented, why is there such secrecy about his certificate?


Can't you just show me the birth certificate?

Article Bears Scars of Media Bias: Reuters and the Astronaut

"Bob Thirsk, who is two months into a planned six-month stay aboard the station, said he is mostly in awe when he looks out the window, particularly at the sliver of atmosphere wrapped around the planet.

'It's a very thin veil of atmosphere around the Earth that keeps us alive,' Thirsk said during an in-flight news conference. 'Most of the time when I look out the window I'm in awe. But there are some effects of the human destruction of the Earth as well.'

'This is probably just a perception, but I just have the feeling that the glaciers are melting, the snow capping the mountains is less than it was 12 years ago when I saw it last time,' Thrisk said. 'That saddens me a little bit.' ~Reuters

The title of this news story is, "Earth bears scars of human destruction: astronaut", but one must read four entire paragraphs before you realize that this isn't a scientific discovery, nor an observation of a geologist, rather it is the "feeling" of a Canadian astronaut. That is, he's looking at the world through Global Warming-colored glasses.

Ah, but the agenda-riddled media changes, "...this is probably just a perception, but I just have a feeling...," to, "Earth bears scars of human destruction: astronaut".

The agenda is that the earth is melting, so they must capitalize on the misguided gut-feelings of an astronaut to promote this idea.

The fact is that the earth has been warmer in the past than it is today; the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have been higher than they are today; planets further from the sun than the earth are undergoing the same heating cycles; the sun goes through hot and cool cycles which correspond with temperatures on the earth; carbon dioxide is necessary to all life on earth, since all creatures exhale it, and plants convert it to oxygen; people use the "greenhouse effect" to grow bigger and better plants; warmer temperatures mean fewer crops destroyed by frost, and greater regions may grow crops that were previously prevented by the cold.


Global Warming would benefit mankind, it's just too bad the earth is cooling, eh?

Thomas Jefferson on Standing Armies

The following quotes are all from Thomas Jefferson at various times and occasions:

"There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army." -1789

"I do not like the omission of a Bill of Rights providing clearly and without the aid of sophisms for... protection against standing armies." -1787

"Nor is it conceived needful or safe that a standing army should be kept up in time of peace for [defense against invasion]." -1801

"A well-disciplined militia, our best reliance in peace and for the first moments of war till regulars may relieve them, I deem [one of] the essential principles of our Government, and consequently [one of] those which ought to shape its administration." -1801

"There shall be no standing army but in time of actual war." -1776

I would like to note that the idea of the U.S. not having a standing army, at least today, is as foreign to us as gun control would be to Jefferson. What was Jefferson's idea of the structure of our national defense? The following quotes should explain:

"None but an armed nation can dispense with a standing army. To keep ours armed and disciplined is therefore at all times important, but especially so at a moment when rights the most essential to our welfare have been violated." -1803

"A well-disciplined militia, our best reliance in peace and for the first moments of war till regulars may relieve them, I deem [one of] the essential principles of our Government, and consequently [one of] those which ought to shape its administration." -1801

"A militia so organized that its effective portions can be called to any point in the Union, or volunteers instead of them to serve a sufficient time, are means which may always be ready yet never preying on our resources until actually called into use. They will maintain the public interests while a more permanent force shall be in course of preparation. But much will depend on the promptitude with which these means can be brought into activity. I would say, in my interpretation of his words, that he almost overstated his view that there should be no standing army, but there should always be a trained militia - an armed citizenry, comprising the whole of the people; and that, in time of war, the U.S. would then begin actively raising "regulars" - Federally trained troops. But, a Federal navy would have a constant presence on our coasts, and this would be increased in time of war.

This fits well with the conservative interpretation of the Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

It is my opinion that we have strayed quite far from our country's founders' intent when it comes to our military and defense policies.

Senate Halts Production of F-22 Raptors

"WASHINGTON – The Senate voted Tuesday to halt production of the Air Force's missile-eluding F-22 Raptor fighter jets in a high-stakes, veto-laden showdown over President Barack Obama's efforts to shift defense spending to a next generation of smaller, single-engine F-35 Joint Strike Fighters." ~Associated Press

Okay, I have to say that this is about to drive me to insanity. The Raptor was the best fighter in the world, and it is now to be replaced by the inferior F-35 JSF. They dropped the Raptor because it was too much money for too much plane, but I think every drop of defense spending should be in strengthening our Navy and Air Force superiority. I believe we are spending too much time and money on "boots-on the ground" training and fighting, and not enough on first-response technology, such as the Raptor and Hornet fighter craft.

Partially because I have a problem with a large, standing army, and partially because of the inefficiency of the same, I strongly disagree with lowering our air superiority standards in order to save funds for Obama's Socialist domestic policies.

I am denied my right to drive unless I hand the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles my original birth certificate (copies not accepted), and it is verified to be actual. But, a Constitutionally mandated verification of qualification for the office of President of the United States requires no identifying papers at all!

Madness.


I would like to note the number of months it has taken us to get this far in our quest to ascertain the location and condition of Barack Hussein Obama's birth certificate, how easy it is to forge a document in such a length of time, and how much money and power he has. Just some observations.

Tennessee Firearms Freedom "Superseded " by the Federal's Restrictions

On June 3rd, 2009, Tennessee passed the Tennessee Firearms Freedom Act, nullifying any Federal control over in-state firearms transactions. Now, the Feds, specifically the BATFE, are saying that they have ultimate authority.

(BATFE: Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Previously known by the following names: "Revenue Laboratory", "Alcohol Tax Unit of the Bureau of Internal Revenue", "Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Division", and "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Division of the Internal Revenue Service".

The BATFE sent letters to gun dealers in Tennessee, proclaiming their continued rule over the Second Amendment.

"Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Sounds like a convenience store."

I suppose it unecessary to remind my readers of the Constitution's "no tolerance" stance on gun-grabbing by any branch or level of government.

No governmental body within the bounds of these United States may regulate or restrict the common man's right to keep and bear arms. Neither federal, state, nor local government is given such power.

Even supposing the Second Amendment did not guarantee the freedom of arms to an individual, though, there is no legitimate argument of this being the case, the U.S. Constitution does not grant to the Federal government the power to regulate arms, as the powers delegated them are all inclusive. In such an outlandish case, the states could regulate them individually.

Thoughts on Climate Change

This post would be entitled "Thoughts on Global Warming", but "Global Warming" is so 2005.

Being a Kansan, I know heat. I can recall July of last year, and of the year before, when the highs were around 105, and the pond was down so far I could walk along the dried up, scummy rim of what used to be almost knee deep water. I could fill up the goats' giant water-bucket in the morning and it would be bone dry by late afternoon. The lawn mowing season ended due to dead grass. Air conditioners were worth their weight in platinum.

This year, however, is different, except for the air conditioner part. This has been the wettest, coolest, lawn mowingest July I have ever experienced.

In my family history book, which starts in Ireland, but takes place mostly in Kansas, there is an account of no rain falling in one part of Kansas for over a year. 16 months, I think it was. That was in the 1860's. So, what have we here today?

Climate Change! Global Cooling! Kansan Cooling, anyway!

Oh, it's still terribly hot here, make no mistake. In fact, the humidity is so terrible, I often have a sudden urge to swim upstream whenever I walk outside. But, it's still not like last year.

The pond is filled to overflowing, and I have to remind myself to clean the nasties out of the goats' water-bucket, whereas I'd normally just let the wind catch the dehydrated bits of grasses and leaves from the bottom of the bucket when I pick it up. I've considered flying over our lawn with "Agent Orange" to combat the jungle formerly known as "the yard".

Since Kansan Cooling has taken over, I guess I won't be able to start hibiscus and citrus plantations after all.

O, We Privileged Few

According to this news report about public housing in Missouri, "...the House Financial Services Committee adopted an amendment to allow guns in public housing projects."

"Allow"? What do you mean by "allow"? How can a right be "allowed"?

A right cannot be "allowed", but a privilege can; that is exactly what Americans are indoctrinated to believe. Take for example the oft used phrase,"Driving is a privilege, not a right." What makes it a privilege? Why are we required to purchase licenses and permits for so many things? Concealed Carry Permits are supposed to be a hard-won victory by the American gun owner, despite some areas of the country revoking them, yet is it now necessary to buy one's rights from the government?

This fits right along side Sotomayor's confirmation hearing, in which, during the opening remarks by Senators, one Democrat mentioned "the right to bear arms" in a list of laws that are less than clear in their possible interpretations.

Such ambiguity! There is, for some strange reason, so much debate over this sentence that the same offices that once instated this law, under new management, now reject it.

may be squeezed out of the text, or intended against it, conform to the

I have carried myself back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, I have recollected the spirit manifested in the debates, and I have conformed to the probable meaning in which it was passed.

And, in so doing, I hold to be a truth that the Second Amendment does not grant the right for individual, private citizens to keep and bear firearms without government interference on any level; rather, the Second Amendment guarantees it! No legislation can, by definition, grant any right, only declare it; rights lay dormant in every human being; nation, creed, or gender notwithstanding. One merely needs to exercise their rights for them to be made manifest.

Today, the intense corruption in our government has eroded beyond recognition our right to keep and bear arms, and we now subscribe to privileges, that may be regulated at a whim by a majority of non-representatives.

I now refer you to a spewing forth of opinion, left on a newspaper's website by an author unknown, the topic being a local ban on smoking in public. The full quote as written follows:

"It's a privelige.  Most of everything you have and do is not a right... Did anyone in Emporia actually finish school?"

This is the product of over one hundred years of compromising our standards and rights to appease tyrants and their misled progeny. The National Rifle Association, for instance, prides itself on compromise, and its members never question the fact that compromise includes "giving-in" from both sides of an argument.

I would suggest that our supposed privileges are few and far between, yet our rights are so many, that they border on being innumerable. We must stop compromising our freedom away, or we will face the consequences of tyrannies that are already upon us. Privileges are for subjects, but rights are for a free people.

'Bama in Berlin



I rediscovered this video over at a blog I frequent, Tennessee Sons of Liberty, with the topic being about the goals of the Council on Foreign Relations.

I'm surprised the fellow who put this video together did not mention the fact that Hitler actually used the phrase "new world order".

"National Socialism will use its own revolution for establishing of a new world order." ~Adolf Hitler

Look at the key phrases in the video, "global citizenship", "required to do more", "not a choice", "the only way, the one way", "protect our common security"; no ambiguities there.

I remember reading about the first time all mankind came together, with common cause and common language, to build a great tower reaching to Heaven.

Didn't work out.

Government Run Websites Hit by NK?

Government run websites have been "cyber attacked" by somebody, and it only makes sense that one of our enemies, like North Korea, did it. According to the linked article, we also need to fear al-Qaeda, presumably because they probably just installed wifi hookups to their caves, and that's just one step away from a full-fledged HTML invasion of our cyberspace.

Prepare the Spam-Guard!

One thing I have to wonder about cyber attacks on the U.S., though... doesn't the U.S. government have an anti-virus program?

Sir, You Have No Right


Example of a 2nd Amendment sticker.

Shreveport, Louisiana is now not allowing anyone to have a 2nd Amendment bumper sticker.

You see, a man was pulled over by a cop for not using his turn signal. I may as well tell you, if you weren't aware, that some policemen will follow a motorist they suspect is doing/will do something wrong, until they make any minor traffic violation, such as not using their signal.

If you think I'm making that up, rest assured that I'm not.

Now, when this man was pulled over, the policeman, of course, asked for his DL, registration, insurance, why he didn't use his signal, etc., yes?

No, none of that boringness.

He instead asked the driver if he had a gun, where it was, inquired as to his NRA membership status, etc.

I'm sure this strange line of questioning had absolutely nothing to do with the two 2nd Amendment bumper stickers and American flag on the back of his truck, right? Well, that question was answered when the poor man asked if everyone was treated this way and the officer answered "no", while indicating the stickers. The victim answered every one of the civil servant's questions honestly, and then had his gun confiscated.

This was done regardless of the man's "Mother, May I" Concealed Carry Permit.

So, the man later called the mayor of Shreveport to complain and maybe get some action taken.

Oh, he got action.

"Sir, you have no right, when you have been pulled over by a police officer for a potential criminal offense, to stand there with your weapon at your side, in your hand, because of your second amendment rights, sir. That does not mean at that point your second amendment right has been taken away; it means at that particular point in time, it has been suspended." ~Mayor Cedric Glover

The article to which I linked states Louisiana does "allow" people to carry loaded firearms in their vehicles, but does the state have any say in what is "allowed"? Is it not a right?

It is a Constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms. I'm no longer going to qualify this fact by even mentioning "some people don't think so", because it is so. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

You can say the sun is black, lightning is a theory, oxygen is toxic, fish can't swim, bees turn into butterflies, the moon is made of cheese, marshmallows are made from clouds, and you can have a major following believing it, and lots of made up "evidence" for it, but you're still wrong!

And when the government enforces its incorrect opinions with its made up "law", and if we don't stop it, we have finally lost America.

ADDENDUM: It has come to my attention that a majority of what I write here may be construed to mean that "all cops are bad", so to speak. Nothing could be further from the truth; not in my mind, and not in reality. There are large contingents of civil servants and service members that have banded together to promote the end of unconstitutionality in their respective fields, and they call themselves the "Oath Keepers". I support this group's message and efforts, and I note the climate of our culture that would promote the necessity of such a group that wasn't needed in a past era. I also would like to make clear my stance that armed conflict is not now, nor ever shall be, the answer or solution to the problem of domestic tyranny in America, rather a constant jarring of the Sleeping Giant that is the American people, and that to be done through these news blurbs and opinionated posts. Elections will not save us, and violence would only send us over the cliff; we must now make a national appeal to Heaven. Nothing but turning to the God of the Bible for the answer can save our nation from the destruction that shall, by hook or crook, ruin us. This is the course I now and forever shall take.

A Couple of Interesting Flags

If you didn't already know, I have somewhat of an interest in flags, of all kinds, colors, and creeds, and I have had this interest for a good many years.



This style of flag was purportedly a "flag of peacetime" flown over non-Federally controlled government buildings in times long past, but there is little evidence of this being true. I stand neutral on this issue, and see it only as an interesting flag. A white canton instead of blue, and blue stars instead of white, and vertical stripes instead of horizontal are a radical departure from the almost-cliched look of the U.S. flag.



This is of lesser, historical controversy, as it is admittedly a new design, but it's still a conversation starter, as it displays the year 1787, the year our Constitution was signed. Three stripes, red, white, and blue, signify the connection our Federal government's flag.

There are more flags out there that aren't known to the general public; take the Gadsden Flag, for instance, as it only became popular again a few years ago, despite being over 200 years old!

He has refused his assent to laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

He has forbidden his governors to pass laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

He has refused to pass other laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of representation in the legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has dissolved representative houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the legislative powers, incapable of annihilation, have returned to the people at large for their exercise; the state remaining in the meantime exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

He has endeavored to prevent the population of these states; for that purpose obstructing the laws for naturalization of foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migration hither, and raising the conditions of new appropriations of lands.

He has obstructed the administration of justice, by refusing his assent to laws for establishing judiciary powers.

He has made judges dependent on his will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies without the consent of our legislature.

He has affected to render the military independent of and superior to civil power.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his assent to their acts of pretended legislation:

For suspending our own legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us.

He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burned our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the head of a civilized nation.

He has constrained our fellow citizens taken captive on the high seas to bear arms against their country, to become the executioners of their friends and brethren, or to fall themselves by their hands.

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian savages, whose known rule of warfare, is undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humble terms: our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

Nor have we been wanting in attention to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, enemies in war, in peace friends.

We, therefore, the representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress, assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by the authority of the good people of these colonies, solemnly publish and declare, that these united colonies are, and of right ought to be free and independent states; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the state of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as free and independent states, they have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things which independent states may of right do. And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

Brothers, come a-runnin'!

What has it All Wrought?

Sanctimonious speeches about sacrificing for freedom fill our ears to the point of madness, mostly from those not willing to sacrifice. They speak many flowery words about freedom and liberty, throwing the words about like the "sunshine patriots" we know they are. They tell us to support our troops in their wretched wars, because they're "fighting for our freedom"; how can they fight for our freedom three-thousand miles from the very place most vulnerable to attack?

Could it be that the "freedom" our nation's finest soldiers are fighting for is the freedom of despots to gain more and more tyrannical power in the name of security here and abroad? There is indeed honor in fighting wars for the maintenance of national sovereignty, but why must they say it is for our freedom? I would suggest there have been hardly four wars truly fought over freedom in this land.

The ever-flowing orations of "love of country" and "freedom" are coming from men who couldn't continue speaking should their paper flutter away in the wind, or their teleprompter shut down, because they themselves don't know what the next line is going to be, as they didn't even write the claptrap they're reading.

And in the course of these speeches, they often dare to utter the names of the selfless men, not to mention the merciful God, that constructed the government offices that they are now corrupting and expanding a thousandfold.

They often -- but not too boldly, lest they offend -- invoke the name of God, but of which god do they ask guidance? Is it of their god of graft, corruption, greed? Or perhaps that of immorality, adultery, and debauchery?

I feel as though God's people, those of strong moral character, are playing the part of Abraham, begging mercy for the "Sodom" of the Senate and the "Gomorrah" of the House of Representatives. We ask God to let us remain alive and free in this land, and not to let us fall altogether, if there be but ten good men in those places.

These wicked men maintain the monuments and memorials to the leaders of the past, keeping the anniversaries, laying the meaningless wreaths, naming parks in their honor, in which one may scarcely enjoy a single freedom for which its namesake fought so valiantly; and placing our country's founders' likenesses on the worthless paper the despots arrogantly call "currency", inscribing below them the men's names, lest we forget them, and above them the words "Federal Reserve", though those very men tried to warn us of the danger of such a beast.

These "civil servants" are quick to claim every whisper of power from the Constitution they swore to uphold, that and more; but how they shriek with terror at the thought of the people holding onto anything more than "privileges" that may be regulated at a whim!

They play games with our minds, pitting "(R)'s" against "(D)'s", when, in truth, there is no difference between them. They claim we have fair elections, but we may only choose the (R) or (D) that they throw at us, like a bone to a dying dog.

They tell us to remember this founder, or this thinker, or this philosopher, reminding us to never give up just because they are taking our very livelihoods from us, rather keep going, never grumbling, like good soldiers.

The sacrifice and words of the legislators and soldiers of our Revolution have brought us many, undeserved years of happiness, but what has it all wrought? Perpetual freedom is unachievable without God, knowledge, might, and vigilance. And we, as a nation, have none of these today.

What do we celebrate on Independence Day? I think we celebrate something that sadly died many, many years ago, but will probably return many, many years from now in a somewhat different form.

How interesting it was, learning about my country, my government, and the individuals who built it, directly or indirectly. What shameless patriotism I felt coming away from that; coming away from all the words that I would only later fully understand, and the historical deeds I would only later appreciate. I cannot look with that same patriotic feeling upon this sin-wracked nation, which seems to me a different world. I feel as though I need not enumerate to you the sins of this different world, but it is, indeed, a different world.
