Soldier of Misfortune: The 13th Amendment and I

On the occasion of my eighteenth year of life in this country, which is nigh upon me, I shall register for the draft; that is, I shall register with Selective Service to be counted one of millions of young American men destined by the government to eventually fight its wars, not as soldiers of fortune, but as soldiers of servitude.

Though military conscription was eliminated in these United States in 1973, one must still register to be drafted should it ever be reinstated. I suppose we should blockade Mexican ports should another Mexican-American War breakout as well?

It is not of my own free will that I give my name, rather I surrender it upon threat of imprisonment or fine. Americans are taught that slavery ended in the 1860's with the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, yet this chain cannot bind the beast that is an all-powerful government:

"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

ADDENDUM: Note the wording of the above amendment, "... or any place subject to their jurisdiction." Interesting that even in 1865, "the United States" was still considered plural.

"I, Dr. Chiyome Fukino, Director of the Hawaii State Department of Health, have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barrack [sic] Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen."

"I promise," is what this doctor is basically saying. If it is true that Obama is an American citizen, which I could accept should ample proof be presented, why is there such secrecy about his certificate?

Can't you just show me the birth certificate?

"But, it's a promise!"

Article Bears Scars of Media Bias: Reuters and the Astronaut

"Bob Thirsk, who is two months into a planned six-month stay aboard the station, said he is mostly in awe when he looks out the window, particularly at the sliver of atmosphere wrapped around the planet.

'It's a very thin veil of atmosphere around the Earth that keeps us alive,' Thirsk said during an in-flight news conference. 'Most of the time when I look out the window I'm in awe. But there are some effects of the human destruction of the Earth as well.'

'This is probably just a perception, but I just have the feeling that the glaciers are melting, the snow capping the mountains is less than it was 12 years ago when I saw it last time,' Thrisk said. 'That saddens me a little bit.' ~Reuters

The title of this news story is, "Earth bears scars of human destruction: astronaut", but one must read four entire paragraphs before you realize that this isn't a scientific discovery, nor an observation of a geologist, rather it is the "feeling" of a Canadian astronaut. That is, he's looking at the world through Global Warming-colored glasses.

Ah, but the agenda-riddled media changes, "...this is probably just a perception, but I just have a feeling...," to, "Earth bears scars of human destruction: astronaut".

The agenda is that the earth is melting, so they must capitalize on the misguided gut-feelings of an astronaut to promote this idea.

The fact is that the earth has been warmer in the past than it is today; the carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere have been higher than they are today; planets further from the sun than the earth are undergoing the same heating cycles; the sun goes through hot and cool cycles which correspond with temperatures on the earth; carbon dioxide is necessary to all life on earth, since all creatures exhale it, and plants convert it to oxygen; people use the "greenhouse effect" to grow bigger and better plants; warmer temperatures mean fewer crops destroyed by frost, and greater regions may grow crops that were previously prevented by the cold.

Global Warming would benefit mankind, it's just too bad the earth is cooling, eh?

Thomas Jefferson on Standing Armies

The following quotes are all from Thomas Jefferson at various times and occasions:

"There are instruments so dangerous to the rights of the nation and which place them so totally at the mercy of their governors that those governors, whether legislative or executive, should be restrained from keeping such instruments on foot but in well-defined cases. Such an instrument is a standing army." -1789

"I do not like the omission of a Bill of Rights providing clearly and without the aid of sophisms for... protection against standing armies." -1787

"Nor is it conceived needful or safe that a standing army should be kept up in time of peace for [defense against invasion]." -1801

"A well-disciplined militia, our best reliance in peace and for the first moments of war till regulars may relieve them, I deem [one of] the essential principles of our Government, and consequently [one of] those which ought to shape its administration." -1801

"There shall be no standing army but in time of actual war." -1776

I would like to note that the idea of the U.S. not having a standing army, at least today, is as foreign to us as gun control would be to Jefferson. What was Jefferson's idea of the structure of our national defense? The following quotes should explain:

"None but an armed nation can dispense with a standing army. To keep ours armed and disciplined is therefore at all times important, but especially so at a moment when rights the most essential to our welfare have been violated." -1803

"A well-disciplined militia, our best reliance in peace and for the first moments of war till regulars may relieve them, I deem [one of] the essential principles of our Government, and consequently [one of] those which ought to shape its administration." -1801

"A militia so organized that its effective portions can be called to any point in the Union, or volunteers instead of them to serve a sufficient time, are means which may always be ready yet never preying on our resources until actually called into use. They will maintain the public interests while a more permanent force shall be in course of preparation. But much will depend on the promptitude with which these means can be brought into activity. If war be forced upon us in spite of our long and vain appeals to the justice of nations, rapid and vigorous movements in its outset will go far toward securing us in its course and issue, and toward throwing its burdens on those who render necessary the resort from reason to force." -1806

I would say, in my interpretation of his words, that he almost overstated his view that there should be no standing army, but there should always be a trained militia - an armed citizenry, comprising the whole of the people; and that, in time of war, the U.S. would then begin actively raising "regulars" - Federally trained troops. But, a Federal navy would have a constant presence on our coasts, and this would be increased in time of war.

This fits well with the conservative interpretation of the Second Amendment, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

It is my opinion that we have strayed quite far from our country's founders' intent when it comes to our military and defense policies.

Senate Halts Production of F-22 Raptors

"WASHINGTON – The Senate voted Tuesday to halt production of the Air Force's missile-eluding F-22 Raptor fighter jets in a high-stakes, veto-laden showdown over President Barack Obama's efforts to shift defense spending to a next generation of smaller, single-engine F-35 Joint Strike Fighters." ~Associated Press

Okay, I have to say that this is about to drive me to insanity. The Raptor was the best fighter in the world, and it is now to be replaced by the inferior F-35 JSF. They dropped the Raptor because it was too much money for too much plane, but I think every drop of defense spending should be in strengthening our Navy and Air Force superiority. I believe we are spending too much time and money on "boots-on the ground" training and fighting, and not enough on first-response technology, such as the Raptor and Hornet fighter craft.

Partially because I have a problem with a large, standing army, and partially because of the inefficiency of the same, I strongly disagree with lowering our air superiority standards in order to save funds for Obama's Socialist domestic policies.

Obama's Birth Certificate Questions: Town Hall Meeting

I am denied my right to drive unless I hand the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles my original birth certificate (copies not accepted), and it is verified to be actual. But, a Constitutionally mandated verification of qualification for the office of President of the United States requires no identifying papers at all!

Madness.


I would like to note the number of months it has taken us to get this far in our quest to ascertain the location and condition of Barack Hussein Obama's birth certificate, how easy it is to forge a document in such a length of time, and how much money and power he has. Just some observations.
