A Final Word for 2008

I would like to ring in 2009 with this stunning display of eloquent speech and an outstanding performance of oratory genius in the Senate chamber. Yes, this is a man that has been elected time and time again to the Upper House of the Legislative Body of our Government which we call the Senate.

Our Government, the one that spends billions of your dollars with the flick of a pen, is partially run by that man.

Not too many speeches like that anymore.

Be sure to wake up in time to watch the ball drop in Times Square!

American Republic Radio Listening Information

The show is still a work in progress, but if you wish to view my radio profile you may go here.
(I know there are some text issues on my profile; I am working on it.)

I have added a BlogTalkRadio player that plays only archived shows (not live) to the sidebar; it is currently non-playable as there have been no actual shows so far.

The first show is on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009, from 4:00-5:00 CST.

Again, call-ins are welcome.

Bitten by the Tag Bug

I've been tagged by Mike to list ten of my New Year's resolutions.

While my family and I really don't do New Year's resolutions per se, there are many things that I plan to accomplish in 2009:

1. Cultivate the far field in corn. (Sweet and field varieties.)

2. Force the local gun shop to start selling #11 percussion caps. (The one shop in town doesn't even have them!)

3. End Illegal Immigration. (OK, that one doesn't count.)

3. Clear out the underbrush and overhang in Cedar Trail.

4. Bite the proverbial bullet and get my Kansas Hunter Indoctri...er...Education Card.

5. Get my DL.

6. Fix the fence on the back goat pasture so they'll STOP GETTING OUT!!!! (Sorry.)

7. Buy a new Gadsden Flag, because my old one is torn beyond further repair.

8. Buy an Apache helicopter with complete armaments. (Okay, I'll keep it legal...)

8. Buy an Apache helicopter with semi-automatic armaments.

9. Cut Pork-Barrel spending. (Now I'm just being silly.)

10. Think of more things to do, because I'm really drawing a blank.

I tag CarolineNot and RGM.

A Message from The Pope

Attended by his men-servants, the Pope offers a speech of sympathy for the poor before retiring to his castle for the day.

"If people look only to their own interests, our world will certainly fall apart."
~Benedict the 16th: Master of Catholicism, Commander-in-Chief of Swiss Papal Guard, Leader of Catholic Cardinals, Bearer of Papal Ring, Wearer of Papal Vestments, of Ruby Slippers, of Golden Buttons, of Scarlet-Colored Velvet Robes, Enthroned Majesty of St. Peter's Basilica, Head of Vatican City, Imperator of "Holy" Roman Empire, Holder of Three-Tiered, Pearl-Encrusted, Gold-Banded, Jewel-Covered Papal Crown, Keeper of Golden Papal Keys, Director of Papal Library, Director of Papal Treasury, Overlord of Papal Coffer-Filling, Master and Commander of Catholic Ministry, Vicarius Maximus of Catholic godhead, and All-Around Really Rich Person.

What's Congress been up to Lately?

This occurred on March 13th of 2008; strange how we never heard anything about it.

Congressmen were also at a later date individually threatened by unnamed entities with the possibility of imminent economic catastrophe and martial law if they did not pass the first $700,000,000,000.00 bailout bill.

"All the public business in Congress now connects itself with intrigues, and there is great danger that the whole government will degenerate into a struggle of cabals."

~John Quincy Adams

To Execute the Laws III

“Widespread civil violence inside the United States would force the defense establishment to reorient priorities in extremis to defend basic domestic order and human security.”

“Deliberate employment of weapons of mass destruction or other catastrophic capabilities, unforeseen economic collapse, loss of functioning political and legal order, purposeful domestic resistance or insurgency, pervasive public health emergencies, and catastrophic natural and human disasters are all paths to disruptive domestic shock.”

“An American government and defense establishment lulled into complacency by a long-secure domestic order would be forced to rapidly divest some or most external security commitments in order to address rapidly expanding human insecurity at home…”

“Already predisposed to defer to the primacy of civilian authorities in instances of domestic security and divest all but the most extreme demands in areas like civil support and consequence management, DoD might be forced by circumstances to put its broad resources at the disposal of civil authorities to contain and reverse violent threats to domestic tranquility. Under the most extreme circumstances, this might include use of military force against hostile groups inside the United States.”

~Retired Lt. Col. Nathan Freir: from a report by him at the U.S. Army War College entitled, "Known Unknowns: Unconventional Strategic Shocks in Defense Strategy Development".

More than Stone: A Dedication to Our Vets

Mike Powers, moderator of Blog of the Irish and Hollywood Deledum Est, was awarded the highest rank of Boy Scouting, Eagle Scout, for his dedication of a memorial to the veterans of World War II.

His sentiments, shared by many, are materialized in this memorial that shall stand unhindered for decades, perhaps even centuries to come. The dedication of this memorial is only outweighed by the dedication of those it honors.

The story of this memorial and Mr. Powers' own Scouting experiences can be read here.
