Unnoticed Hypocrisy at the "You Lie" Speech

"Some of people's concerns have grown out of bogus claims spread by those whose only agenda is to kill reform at any cost. The best example is the claim, made not just by radio and cable talk show hosts, but prominent politicians, that we plan to set up panels of bureaucrats with the power to kill off senior citizens. Such a charge would be laughable if it weren't so cynical and irresponsible. It is a lie, plain and simple. [Rousing cheers, sustained applause]

There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false – the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally.* ~Obama

*"You lie!" ~Representative Joe Wilson [Boos and faces of anger and shock, soon followed by days of controversy]

So, Obama calling out liars in politics and the private sector (multiple times) is met by cheers, but a congressman calling out a liar (once) is met by jeers?

Ah, Democracy!

We all's hyere.
To your poll - absolutely!
I haven't watched the video below,
as it's over an hour long and I haven't time. But I plan to watch it with my dad when I get a chance. Probably not tonight, as M&J are coming over.

Okay, thanks!

How are M&J doing?

They're doing great! They're living about 20 minutes from us.
What'd y'all do for labor day?
BTW, we put our flag at halfmast in remembrance of 9/11, and in protest of the Patriot and National Security Acts.
Keep up the good work!

A good point, but still not proof of anything much.

Not to be rude, but I'm still waiting for proof of some of the allegations against this bill I've seen- I'd be more than happy to believe anything horrid of this bill, but most of the allegations (death panels, illegals getting healthcare, abortions being funded, etc.) have not been proven.

Johann, I don't recall what we did for Labor Day. We really don't do much stuff on Communist holidays. :)

Liberty, I'll do some research and pull up my references ASAP, so check back soon.

Nevertheless, I don't know why these allegations need to be made in the first place, as the bill violates the Constitution.

The powers given to Congress are all-inclusive, and control of medicine is not among those powers.

A Constitutional case can be made for state-implemented health care, or private sector, but not federal.

Susan Larson, registered nurse at Mayo Clinic and seeming proponent of the health care bill: “In regard to Section 1233 of the proposed health care bill, medical caregivers are instructed to have discussions with seniors about their end-of-life care, at least every five years, or yearly if the medical condition of the patient makes significant changes or they develop a chronic illness.” She goes on to praise this.

See page 6 of Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel's Principles for allocation of scarce medical interventions. Dr. Emanuel is a health policy advisor to Barack Obama and the brother of of the chief of staff.

Death panels. No one will find those words in HR 3200, so there's no need to look for them. One must be able to discern the character and intent of individuals and groups and have an understanding of a much broader picture than HR 3200. On this particular -- and comparatively insignificant issue -- my personal response is to be incensed that I will be required to carry health insurance (or pay a penalty), and a physician will be required to repeatedly draw my attention to how old and decrepit I am becoming. Don't forget you're going to die! One might do well to draw more attention to how I'm living what's going to happen after I die. Wrong focus.

Moreover -- and I realize this is not an academic statement, but grandiose verbiage tends to flatter and puff-up an author more than conveying a message -- to what depths have we sunk, when the debate is over whether or not this bill impacts or addresses the already dishonored elderly, murdered babies, and invaders of our country? Why do those groups exist in our nation in the first place?

Finally, I'm sorry, Son3, for blathering so on your blog while you're still sleeping. I know and understand that the minutia of this issue vexes you, since -- as you educated me -- the whole thing is unconstitutional in the first place. All these issues are heart problems, resolved one heart at a time.
