"I Need to See Your ID and Your Freedom Permit."

Land of the free? Only if you have a Freedom Permit.

The young man handled this situation well, and the SWAT goon wasn't as brutish as we're all used to them being, so it was a good day for this group of young Americans. I would have handled it a little differently, though:

POLICE: "OK, can I ask you a question? Who are you with?"

Son3: "Oh, are you from the newspaper?"

SWAT: "You have two options, you can disassemble and leave, or I call those people over here and take you to jail."

Son3: "Take me to jail! I shall wear your handcuffs as a symbol of honor, and I shall stand behind your bars as a man who would not comply with tyranny. The Constitution you swore to uphold guarantees our right to be here, peaceably assembled; I will know for the rest of my life that I was imprisoned for obeying the law, and that you, a law enforcement officer, willfully betrayed that law. Go ahead... make my day!"

I applaud you Sir!
One problem - if you said that to him, you'd probably be sorry. Until it was just a memory, that is.

Thanks, Johann!

Yeah, I don't know exactly how painful 50,000 volts of electricity can be... somewhere between excruciating and unbearable, I think.

I second the applause!

That SWAT guy knows he's enforcing tyranny, you can see it in him...weakness.

Thank you, Doctor!

I know what you mean, AdamS. One can almost see him realize what he's saying is true, then he says that he's "only doing his job", trying to rationalize despotism. I see that a lot.

Thug. Just doing your "job", eh? Well as a citizen of These United States, sworn to uphold the Constitution, 'twould be my "job" to reply in kind - with bolts of high electricity or hot lead. Whose with me, eh?

Yes, "just following orders" was a common response from Nazi prison guards during the Nuremberg trials.

I think tasers for self-defense from cops is more than reasonable, though no altercation is better still.

Awesome new profile pic, BTW!

Hey thanks! I snapped it out by the garden, with all my reenacting gear on. I'm hoping to send you an email tonight. BTW, I have a reenactment this weekend.
